У Лос-Анджелесі зірки рок- і поп-музики записали пісню We are the World.
Пісня, що закликає об'єднатися для допомоги голодуючим Африки, була написана Майклом Джексоном і Лайонелом Річі та витримана в жанрах популярної музики. Продюсерами проекту стали Квінсі Джонс і Майкл Омартьян. Пісня увійшла в однойменний альбом.
«We Are the World» став першим мультиплатиновим і самим швидко продаваним синглом в історії популярної музики США. Композиція очолювала багато чарти світу. Процес запису пісні в студії був знятий на відеоплівку. Ці кадри згодом стали відеокліпом на «We Are the World», світова прем'єра якого відбулася 11 березня 1985 на телеканалі MTV.
Для виконання пісні зібрали величезну компанію зірок, яку нарекли «USA for Africa».
